For our 12th consecutive season, Friends of Berthoud Pass is proud to offer our Avalanche Awareness classroom series which covers topics such as:
  • Huddle: discuss Avy Forecasts and Warnings
  • Observe: weather and snowfall, recent avalanches
  • Avoid: Terrain Hazards
  • Rescue: Avalanche safety gear and real scenarios
  • Return: plan for your return, the most important part!

We will be hosting more than a dozen classes in Colorado, from Castle Rock to Boulder, and over the Divide in Winter Park. We’re excited about the upcoming season and hope for consistent deep snow without any Avalanche accidents or worse. That’s how we want each season to be, and we want you to join the discussion about weather, terrain, snowpack and human factors in avalanche safety.

Even if you have tons of experience in the snowy backcountry already, our FREE classroom series is a great early-season tune-up on your existing skills.

There is no need to register for any of the classrooms, and each location covers the same topics. Find one near you and come join us!

Is the event on Thursday, October 22nd at 6 or 7? I called the brewery and they are under the impression that it is 6 to 8 not 7 to 9:30.

    Hello,

Does your organization hold an “on the snow” avalanche course? I see your classroom series, which looks great! I am also looking for some hands on experience with avalanche gear and snow conditions.

    Thanks!

Hi Brooke, we will be holding two on-snow classes on January 23 and 24. We do require everyone to attend one of our free classroom sessions before attending the free on-snow session, so make sure to it to one of those first. The registration links will be posted on our facebook page and the website as we get closer to the on-snow. If you have any other questions or would like more info please don’t hesitate to email me. JP@Berthoudpass.org Thanks – JP

Is the Arc’teryx event really on the 20th, or is it on Thursday the 21st?

This is the second Wednesday in a row that the event was moved to Thursday. Why can you not update this page? Now I can’t attend the on-snow event. I mean, I get it that this is a free thing so maybe I shouldn’t complain, but I did donate and this is sort of annoying.

Hi Jordan, Thanks for the comment. We apologize for having to change the dates on such short notice. We do our best to keep to our original schedule but we host all of our shows at local businesses and are at the mercy of our hosts changing availability. If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to email me at JP@Berthoudpass.org. Thanks – JP
