Join us for the 2012 on-snow avalanche awareness classes, held at BerthoudPass February 18 and 19th.  if you participated in one of our classroom sessions this season, you are eligible to take the on-snow course with us, free of charge.  Choose a day – Saturday the 18th or Sunday the 19th, and come up to Berthoud Pass – you’ll learn more about terrain choices, safe travel techniques and snowpack observations.

During the day you will learn the basics of:
  • How to read and interpret the avalanche bulletin
  • How weather, terrain and snowpack contribute to avalanche danger
  • How to recognize avalanche terrain
  • How to deploy your rescue equipment
  • A demonstration of companion rescue

(This NOT intended to be an AIARE Level 1 course, but is great prep for one!)

    I was wondering if anyone knew where Ike Garst is these days? I worked at Berthound Pass in 1976-77. I was in Colorado last year and tried to track him down, but couldn’t find him. Is he still in Colorado? Do you know how to conact him ?
